The latest survey on Media habits from the US says that in 2005 the average American will watch 1760 hours or more of Television. That is more than 5 hours a day. I don't know where they get these figures, but say they are accurate. That is 2.5 months a year. GET A LIFE! The question is are Australians the same? Some of the research I collated for my soon-to-be released book on Generation Y suggests that the average Gen Y'er has 5 hours of screen time a day, shared between TV, Computer and Games.
Well I can tell you this much... this GENY'er has been watching too much TV... a quote from a the Fmylife blog:
"Today, I found out why my 20 year-old girlfriend broke up with me. She was building everything she did to match her favorite TV show. The main character left her boyfriend in the exact way she left me. And the breakup email she sent me contained monologue from the TV show, word for word. FML"
WOW... Now that girls needs to turn the TV off and get her own life!

G'Day Peter,I agree re too much TV. I just posted this comment on the message board of yahoo. TURN TV OFF FOR ONE DAY OF THE YEAR!
I said that in order to find out how much crime would drop..( similar words)and given that we are switching off lights around the world today,we should consider here channels 7,9,10 could have a spell.Let's see if peace in some home,or area transforms in some form.It could this day next year or whatever day peace is sort or known. Many youths are influenced by TV and bad news is their bread and butter just as the Judiciary,Lawyers and Solicitors depend on crime persisting. That's why you get early releases...A NO Tolerance against crime would mean no income sooner or later. Sensationalizing crime stirs up peaceful minds to do something..eventually. Me?I have no crimes, no drug history,no other form of law breaking background. May I say, that you would be lucky to find any scientologist breaking the law or on the record something done wrong. Check our parishioners out if you wish, you will be VERY surprised !!! I've been a scientologist for 22 years and will show any DVD on it to anyone willing to have a second opinion on life and human beahviour. Yes, based on stats, the Church will be THE 21st and 22nd century Church doing something about it...
I mean, can the human condition be improved along with his relationship with life and the universe. Do well. Ian Jones.

I've just turned 48 years of age, to some people that's old and I should imagine that I would be classified as someone who should get out more rather than staying at home watching television and computer flicks.I took my wife over to Christmas Island roughly 15 weeks ago, arrived back in perth (WA) and drove up to a well known destination called Monkey-Mia. All that said,I've driven three times to Bruce Rock, once to Kalgoorlie, and other places in-between. To support you in your book, most people who are over the 40 year age bracket should, catch up with as much information that is available both through the television networks and internet mediums. It is imperative to remain focused as to current world events & trends as the world that we all grew up in, is forever changing and we must continually keep up with it.No, not all Australians are the same as there are a few like-minded people who are both mentally & consciously alert.I'm a carer for my wife who is elderly, she (by no name) turned 99 years old on june 8th
2005. S.....,is able to conform and adapt with my thinking and is quite with it despite her age.She can assimilate the differences of understanding in an ever changing world and looks to me to keep her best informed. The mental processess that come in to play helps S....., from inherting the post-adaptive disease known as dimentia or parkinsons and i suppose, Ill just have to continue learning through the mediums available.I do hope this ditty gives you some insight into us dreary Australians but bear in mind,we
have adapted from our caves many eons past? God Bless You. p.s.,S.....was born on 8th june 1906 and we have been married for 13 years thus far.Frank
