Have you heard of Podcasting? Well it is like the Ipod users way of replacing radio. Whilst still very much in its infancy it is just a nother example of users (mainly young users) wanting to have control over their experiences. Imagine a radio station that only played what you wanted.
Yes, The switch from analogue to digital is significant. The airwaves will be controlled by the Telstra's the Optus' and the AAPT's. Think of broadband in your car from a single wireless aerial that serves your in-car phone, your radio/music, the DVD's that the kids are watching in the backseat, your GPS and your vehicle manufacturer's immobiliser.
All too convenient, but all too trackable. For me, it will be a love-hate relationship. For the entrepreneur living fast and for marketing analysts, it is an absolute dream. For the privacy advocate, an absolute nightmare.
One trait that Gen y'ers may need to develop is a resistance to the pressure of public exposure. The "Big Brother" and reality TV generation may need to evolve into a thick-skinned group that cares little about its privacy and more about its performance.
